BS Recording Search - Public Release

Postby acarslogger » March 7th, 2008, 5:18 pm

Hi all

BS Recording Search is now available for general release. Thanks go to the small band of volunteers who have performed the initial Beta testing.
I have named this v0.2. If no major problems appear I will release it at Version 1 in a few weeks.

Overview - BS Recording Search

What it does
- allows for a ModeS (e.g. 400ABC) to be extracted from an existing Basestation Recording File (.bst).
- allows for a callsign (e.g. BAW123) [with wild card options] to be extracted from an existing Basestation Recording File (.bst).
- allows for all records between 2 times (e.g. 12:34 to 15:29) to be extracted from an existing Basestation Recording File (.bst).
- For all options it is possible to speed-up the playback 2, 5 or 10 times the original speed.
- For an existing Basestation Recording File it is possible to speed-up the whole file and play it back at 2, 5 or 10 times the original speed.
- For all options a new modified Basestation Recording File is created.

What it doesn't do
- it doesn't use the internet
- it doesn't use any data from port 30003
- it doesn't access or modify the Basestation database (Basestation.sqb)
- it doesn't modify any existing Basestation Recording Files (.bst)
- it doesn't have its own SQLite database

System Requirements

It has been tested on XP SP2 and Vista 32bit.
As with other applications it will not install/work on Vista 64bit systems.

Installation

If you have previously installed BS Recording Search, remove the program via Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs

Thanks to Andy (threemiles) for making web space available. You can download the zip file from here http://bsrs.jetvision.de/ .

If you are not over-confident about downloading, unzipping and installing files please read the User Guide first as there are some detailed installation instructions.

Although it may go against natural instinct, please read the User Guide. This is especially important regarding the Basestation Playback facilities and the .NET Framework installation.

The User Guide "BS_Recording_Search_User_Guide" is available in 2 places -
- it's available here http://bsrs.jetvision.de/ . Open and save to your preferred location.
- it's also included in the zip file. Manually extract from the zip file and save to your preferred location.

To install the application extract the contents of the zip file into a temporary folder. Run setup.exe.
If you get an "Application Install - Security Warning", click on Install. Microsoft Net Framework 3.5 is required. If this is not currently on your PC it will go off to the Microsoft site, download and install Net 3.5.

These are the .NET 3.5 links mentioned in the User Guide.

.NET 3.5 Bootstrap Installation
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... layLang=en

.NET 3.5 Complete Installation
http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... etfx35.exe

I hope the application will be useful for those who use the Basestation Recording facility.
This is my first attempt at releasing an application, so please be gentle !

Have fun
Stuart

Hi Stuart. Brilliant program. Works a treat. It is so nice to be able to have the search facility and to be able to playback at increased speeds.

Thanks for your time and effort.

Stuart

I have used this on an XP machine and a Vista laptop over the weekend and it works just great.

The facility to select just one aircraft is excellent.

A great piece of software

Many thanks

Pete

Hi Stuart

Thanks, this is a very useful addition for SBS-1 users who want to catch up on the day’s events while they had to be away from their SBS-1’s.

I found it easy to install and you’ve included a good User Guide. What’s good for me is that I no longer have to sift through long Recordings in real time and with the Filters and Speeded Up playback I can quickly identify aircraft and events.

Highly recommended…

Hi all,

BS Recording Search Version v0.4 is now available at http://bsrs.jetvision.de/

If you have previously installed BS Recording Search, remove the old version via Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs

The main functionality has not changed. The modifications from v0.2 to v0.4 are:-

1) Extra validation inserted to trap control characters that one user was getting inside the bst files.
2) The extra underscore in the WholeFile output filename removed.
3) When performing a PartFile search, the search will terminate when it gets passed the end date/time.
